What Is a One Way Taxi?

A one way taxi (one way drop taxi, one trip taxi) takes you from A to B and you pay only for that distance — not for the car's return. See how it works, prices from ₹15/km and when to choose it.

Quick answer

A one way taxi is an outstation cab that drops you at your destination and does not bring you back — so you pay only for the distance you actually travel, not for the empty return. It is also called a one way drop taxi, drop taxi, one drop taxi or one trip taxi. It usually costs close to half of a round trip taxi for the same journey; with OnewayCab it starts at ₹15/km.

How a one way taxi works

With a traditional outstation taxi, the operator charges you for the kilometres to your destination and the kilometres for the car to come back empty. A one way taxi company fills that return journey with another passenger, so it only charges you for your side of the road.

  1. You book a car from your pickup to your drop point.
  2. The driver picks you up at your door and drops you at the exact address.
  3. You pay the one way fare — distance × per-km rate plus driver bata — and the trip ends there.

One way taxi, drop taxi, one trip taxi — are they different?

No. These are different names people use for the same service:

  • One way taxi / one way cab — the common name.
  • Drop taxi / one way drop taxi — popular in Tamil Nadu; "drop" because the car only drops you.
  • One drop taxi — one pickup, one drop.
  • One trip taxi / one way trip car — a single trip, not a return.

How much does a one way taxi cost?

Real example from today's rates: Salem to Kanyakumari (about 456 km) costs ₹7,240 one way, against ₹13,568 for a round trip — a saving of about 47%.

One way fares start at ₹15/km for a sedan. Short trips have a minimum distance; long trips are charged by actual kilometres. Tolls, parking and inter-state permits are extra, as actuals.

When should you choose a one way taxi?

  • Moving to another city, joining college or a new job.
  • Airport or railway station drops in another town.
  • Family functions where you are coming back later by bus, train or another cab.
  • Pilgrimage or hill station trips where you will return on a different day.

If you need the same car to wait and bring you back on the same day or within a day or two, a round trip can work out better — compare both in the booking form.
